Any adventurous travellers are advised to make sure they read the small print on their holiday insurance documentation before setting off on a storm chasing vacation.
There has been a recent increase in the number of people who prefer to spend their annual two weeks holiday following high-adrenaline pursuits rather than lying on a beach. Adventurous types can choose to go potholing or even do a spot of base jumping but the latest craze involves rain and very strong winds.
A number of tour operators are now offering holidaymakers the chance to possibly experience a tornado without needing previous storm chasing experience or knowledge of weather forecasting.
Roger Hill of Silver Lining Tours, speaking to the Chicago Tribune, explained: "You can climb a mountain or jump out of a plane but can never tame a hurricane or tornado - that's for sure."
"It's one of the last frontiers that no one will ever conquer."
However, the cost of the storm chasing trips are not cheap, with prices starting at around $1,500 for a two-week trip in Southern US and the company can't guaranteed that weather conditions will be suitable for a up close experience of a tornado.
